Lessons Learnt

It certainly was an interesting evening for the first Soup Kitchen night. A few lessons were learnt including that bank holiday weekends are a no no if you want your friends to turn up! The early part of the evening admittedly had a low turnout but the people who were there were into the music and even had a dance or two.

However there was an overspill from the pub below which filled the room right up. This was met with initial smiles from us but that soon changed as we were besieged by a large number of Pete Doherty wannabees who had no interest in the music and just wanted to drink and ruck amongst themselves. They also seem to have an unhealthy interest in the music of Motley Crue, Billy Idol and Adam Ant judging by their requests!

The sets by the guest DJ's Andy & Emma from Pocketbooks were excellent and deserved to be heard by a more appreciative audience and we will have them back once we have ironed out the initial problems. A big thanks to them both.

Highlight for me though was the three song chunk of white noise that drove most of the Doherty clan out the room and despite the pessimism I did enjoy myself by the end.

If anyone has some advice on running a club night let us know!
