The Mighty Lemon Drops - Hollow Inside & Into The Sun

Here is a Mighty Lemon Drops video I found on you tube (where else?) which I didn't know even existed. It's for Hollow Inside a track from their second album World Without End (1988). It was never going to be a single so I am not sure why the video was made.

Into The Sun was going to be the band's last ever single. However it was never released but was taken from their vastly under-rated final album called Ricochet (1992) which only ever saw a state side release.

My unofficial Mighty Lemon Drop website, with two concerts available for downloading, can be found here. It needs updating!

The Pristines

The Pristines released their latest single towards the end of last year on Cloudberry Records.

However this Coventry based band, who took their name from the Sea Urchins Pristine Christine track, are hardly new to the indie pop scene and have been around for a number of years. Best known for their releases on Sunday Records, especially the 1995 album Teen-Fraud, Pop-Whore Pt 1, the band are still recording today and are looking for a label to release their music on. I hope it's not a long wait. There is an entertaining biography of the band on their website which saves me the job of having to supply a condensed version.

Now to the music. What do the band sound like? It's a classic indie pop sound echoing the likes of The Field Mice, Sarah Records, Creation Records although at times The Pristines head into lo-fi, almost folkish territory.

The Pristines - Shadows In The Sun (taken from Kimberly Somebody Sunday, 1993)

Bonus Tracks:

The Pristines - Ruthy Can't Wink (taken from the self released Get Caught in Showtime 2000)
The Pristines - Favourites (taken from Teen-Fraud, Pop-Whore Pt 1 1995)
The Pristines - Good Things Never Come Despite The Wait (taken from the All Washed Out EP on Cloudberry 2007)

About

Are You Scared To Get Happy takes it's name from the Bristol fanzine of the same name that was produced by Matt Haynes who later co-founded Sarah Records.

This little blog is just my tribute to the indie pop scene of years past and I hope you enjoy it. This blog is created in the spirit of my original indie-mp3 site which existed between 2002 - 2005 and is now a fully fledged music review site.

I endeavour to update it on a weekly basis with tracks posted by me being available for a limited period. Feel free to leave comments or contact me. If posting a track offends get in touch and I will take it down.
