Edwyn Collins/Orange Juice

After his illness last year it's good to see Edwyn Collins back up and running. A new album titled Home Again will be released on Heavenly Recordings in September preceded by a single You'll Never Know. Both the single and the album title track can be currently streamed via My Space.

Whilst Collins is revered as a solo artist most fans of indie pop wil know him better as the founder and frontman of Orange Juice.

I have been busy transferring vinyl to CD recently and the following tracks are taken from two 12" singles released on Polydor in 1983 during the bands most successful period. The 12" version of Rip It Up is less funky than the single that charted at number 8 in 1983. Sadly the follow up Flesh Of My Flesh didn't repeat this success stalling at number 41. This 12" remix version, like the 7" one at the same time, was re-recorded and was not as good in my view as the one found on the Rip It Up album. However it has never been released on CD (I think!) so enjoy!

Orange Juice - Rip It Up(Punk Club Version)
Orange Juice - A Sad Lament (Long Version)
Orange Juice - Flesh Of My Flesh(Long Version)
Orange Juice - Lord John White and the Bottleneck Train(Long Version)

About

Are You Scared To Get Happy takes it's name from the Bristol fanzine of the same name that was produced by Matt Haynes who later co-founded Sarah Records.

This little blog is just my tribute to the indie pop scene of years past and I hope you enjoy it. This blog is created in the spirit of my original indie-mp3 site which existed between 2002 - 2005 and is now a fully fledged music review site.

I endeavour to update it on a weekly basis with tracks posted by me being available for a limited period. Feel free to leave comments or contact me. If posting a track offends get in touch and I will take it down.
