Red Sleeping Beauty

I must admit that Red Sleeping Beauty passed me by at the time. In fact they seemed to have passed most people by and because of the scarcity of their releases they have now developed some sort of "cult status" on the indie pop scene.

A post on the German blog Coast Is Clear prompted me to write my own especially after coming across their retrospective releases recently.

Red Sleeping Beauty were a Swedish band that existed between 1992 and 1997. The description on their My Space page is:

RSB certainly left a big imprint in the international indie scene. They were around for quite some time, and while they may have been unnoticed by some, the true pop fans know exactly how amazing this band was.

Picture a small nightclub in Stockholm, sugar jazzy guitars, gentle waves of bass, a piano, some trumpets and a delicate la-la-la siren singing heartfelt lyrics. Of course the repertoire varies from C-86, 80s Sarah/ El/ Postcard, soft rock, punkie tunes, some tender soul. Don't forget the weather, think of a balmy August evening. The tunes are neatly catchy but sometimes are far from upbeat. The songs are spectacularly beautiful. They smile in tune. Maybe that's the best kept secret.

These tracks were taken from the retrospective single titled simply Single and was released in 2000 on the Spanish label Siesta.

As for band members today? Niklas AngergÄrd is now in the Acid House Kings whilst Mikael Matsson was in The Shermans and now is in The Charade.

I endeavour to update it on a weekly basis with tracks posted by me being available for a limited period. Feel free to leave comments or contact me. If posting a track offends get in touch and I will take it down.
